About Maïka
I’m a friendly and reliable tutor who enjoys helping students feel more comfortable and confident in French. I’m a native French speaker and currently attend an English CEGEP, which helps me really understand the challenges students face when learning French as a second language. My tutoring style is patient, clear, and supportive. I explain things in a simple way, take the time to answer questions, and make sure students understand before moving on. I always aim to create a calm, judgment-free space where students feel comfortable learning and making mistakes. I’m currently studying in the Law, Society and Justice program at Dawson College, which has helped me develop strong communication and organization skills. I take tutoring seriously, come prepared to lessons, and stay organized, while still keeping sessions relaxed and approachable. Students and parents can expect a tutor who is respectful, punctual, and easy to talk to. My goal is to help students improve their French, gain confidence in class, and feel more at ease using the language overall.

English
I offer personalized French lessons designed to help students build confidence, accuracy, and real-life communication skills. My approach is student-centered: I adapt each lesson to your level, goals, and learning style, whether you’re learning French for school, work, exams, or everyday conversation.
My Teaching Approach & Methodology
I focus on understanding before memorization. I explain grammar rules in a simple, logical way and immediately apply them through practice. I combine:
Clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary
Guided speaking and listening exercises
Reading and writing practice adapted to your level
Corrections that are supportive and constructive
I encourage students to ask questions and make mistakes—this is a key part of learning a language confidently.
A Typical Lesson
A typical lesson includes:
A short review of previous material
Introduction of a new concept (grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation)
Practical exercises (speaking, writing, or comprehension)
Real-life examples and conversation practice
A brief recap and optional exercises to practice independently
Lessons are structured but flexible, depending on your needs and pace.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills. As a student myself, I understand the challenges of learning and academic pressure. I aim to create a relaxed, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable progressing at their own speed. I focus not only on correctness, but also on helping you express yourself clearly and confidently in French.
