I use different methods and approaches that best fit my students. They all engage differently and are at different levels so I adapt my teaching according to the individual.
For A level students, I start by doing a crash grammar course covering every major grammar area. I use comprehension texts which include a mixture of vocabulary search, translations and comprehension questions. I practice speaking skills, give advice on IRP and teach exam techniques using speaking cards. I prompt students to elicit views and opinions on the subjects with reference to the French culture.
For GCSE students, I approach each topic by teaching key words, grammatical points and speaking skills. I then reinforce the vocabulary with reading and writing tasks.
To consolidate what we have covered in lessons I set homework every week.
