About Mark
I started my French language studies at the age of 13. I went on to major in French and Russian at the University of Pittsburgh and lived in France for a year while studying. During that time, I lived with a host family which helped me to develop a more colloquial style of speaking. I went on to become a professional pastry chef and instructor working for and with French and Belgian Chefs as well as leading private pastry tours of Paris and Lyon. In addition to listening to French podcasts and news, I have a wide network of personal and professional contacts with whom I interact on a regular basis to maintain my native fluency.

My teaching methods vary with your current level of French and your ultimate needs and goals. Oral skills can focus on bare essentials for travel, casual conversational or professional-level language. I teach with multiple modalities including verbal presentations, 2-way conversation, videos, audio recordings, and reading excerpts to develop listening, speaking, and writing skills. I can help you prepare for an exam, a certification or degree, or simply a trip to a French-speaking destination. Having lived in France and subsequently traveled to Paris and throughout the country, I can also help you in planning your travel itineraries for Paris and beyond.
