Founder of the Melbourne Tap Dance Festival 2005, Grant Swift is a world recognized performer, teacher, choreographer, and producer.

It's hard to believe it's been three decades, but tapping with Grant Swift has been a constant source of joy and inspiration in my dance life. Coming from a syllabus-heavy, pretty pretentious dance background, his New Orleans old-school tap was a revelation. It was exactly what I needed – a return to the authentic roots of the art form.
To share a stage with Grant is an absolute honour. He draws you in with his raw energy, genuine passion, and the New Orleans tap talent he embodies. For someone self-taught throughout his years, his level of talent is mind-blowing. He is one of the most talented and focused dancers I've ever met.
Beyond the stage, Grant has been an incredible teacher and mentor. He's attentive, generous with his knowledge, and has had a profound and creative impact on my own approach to tap and life in general. "The Slide Master" is truly one of the greats. Every time I get to tap alongside Grant, it's a reminder of why I fell in love with this style of dance in the first place. It's about the intricate and soulful connection with the music and the sheer exhilaration of sharing the floor with someone who embodies the spirit of real tap.

Grant is a kind, clear, lively person who brightens every tap class he teaches.

I had the pleasure of learning from him in 2024, after a small tap hiatus, and my spark was immediately reignited. I love his relaxed, rhythmic style, which I can only describe as incredibly cool.

He is a fantastic Advanced teacher and I would recommend his classes to anyone!

I started tap dance lessons with Grant 5 years ago after seeing him perform! It was just the inspiration I needed to dust off my tap shoes. Having done tap as a child through the typical ballet school syllabus, I'd never seen this rhythmic and free feeling form of tap before!
His classes from the get go were so much fun, informative, energetic and I learnt
traditional tap dance routines such as the famous Shim sham shimmy and BS chorus.
I've since brought along a bunch of my girlfriends and it's become a fun and funky weekly get together!! Thanks Grant xx

Grant is an amazing tap teacher and the friendliest bloke in general! I took roughly two years of mostly group tap classes and some privates from him in-person in Melbourne, after seeing him perform at a swing dance social night. I sadly moved away and couldn't continue in-person lessons!

Grant really tailors his lessons to suit your level, style and what you want to get out of tap. I observed this in my group classes, as he moved from student to student giving different instructions based on what each student needed. He was also great at pacing and would move on to the next thing if he saw I was getting it or slow down if I was struggling. I always felt like I would get something out of each class, even if I was struggling on the day. Most importantly his classes are lots of fun. Tap is such an awesome art form and Grant embodies the whole vibe of it!

I learnt a really authentic rhythm tap style from Grant. The kind of thing you'd see in videos of tappers in New Orleans, or of the masters performing on stage or in the street. I really like that it's not at all the ballet/"jazz" style you generally see kids learning. Grant's style is very musical and rhythmic whether or not there's actual music playing.

I absolutely recommend Grant with no hesitation! You'll have a blast for sure!
