About Lucy
I am an award-winning screenwriter, script editor, and highly experienced English tutor with over twenty produced films, including The Secret of Moonacre (Warner Bros). Alongside my professional writing career, I have spent many years teaching English and storytelling at secondary, further, and higher education level.
I am a former Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Portsmouth and have taught at several prestigious London colleges. I have worked with students ranging from 11+ and GCSE level through to A level and university, and I have extensive experience helping students understand how to meet assessment objectives and examiners’ expectations.

Based in Brighton, I teach online via Zoom or in person. Lessons are typically 1 hour long and tailored to each student.

How my lessons work:
In the first session, we will discuss the student’s goals, current level, exam board (where relevant), and any specific challenges. I then create a personalised learning plan that focuses on both subject knowledge and effective exam question answering.
My teaching style is supportive, structured, and encouraging. I aim to help students not only improve their grades but also gain confidence in their thinking and writing, whether they are working towards passing an exam, achieving top grades, or simply feeling more capable in English.
During the first free lesson, I will provide the following.
1) An overview of the student's strengths and weaknesses
2) Writing feedback
3) Recommendations for future improvement
4) Suggested areas to inform future lessons
