Find out more about Ben

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Growing up with a mother who is a nurse, I was inspired by the impact she had in our community and the way she combined knowledge, compassion, and skill to improve lives. My passion for private tutoring grew after years of working one-on-one with students who struggled in traditional settings but thrived through personalised, open, and supportive interactions. Both fields allow me to support others in meaningful ways, which is at the heart of everything I do.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Nursing is a deeply rewarding profession that blends advanced knowledge, skilled practice, and compassionate attitudes to improve the physical and psychosocial well-being of vulnerable individuals. I find great fulfilment in teaching critical care nursing topics-especially the management of deteriorating patients, guiding students through effective strategies for nursing interviews, and supporting those who face challenges with their university assignments. It's incredibly satisfying to witness students grow in confidence and take ownership of their learning as they realise their potential.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had a teacher in graduate school whose patience, consistency, and remarkable ability to simplify complex topics left a lasting impression on me. Inspired by his approach, I naturally began to adopt and mimic his strategies in my own teaching. Over time, I realised that what once motivated me to learn had become a powerful tool I now use to guide and empower my own students on their learning journey.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Good tutors take the time to assess their learners in order to tailor the teaching-learning experience to each individual's unique needs. They collaborate with students to set clear, achievable goals, regularly evaluate progress, and adjust their teaching strategies to address any emerging challenges. This learner-centred approach ensures that students remain at the heart of the educational process, fostering deeper engagement and more meaningful progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I teach, I often use everyday experiences as analogies, mixing them with humour to make the lessons more relatable and engaging. One memorable moment was when a group of students approached me and shared that they remembered the lessons better because of the funny anecdotes I used. What struck me most was their final remark: "I learned more because you made it fun."
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The biggest challenge I face is helping students realise that constantly worrying about the future can steal valuable time and energy from the present. Many come to me feeling anxious-whether it's about passing an assignment, performing well in a final assessment, or lacking confidence for an interview. That's why it's incredibly rewarding to hear from them after they've succeeded, knowing they've overcome those fears and grown stronger in the process.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I do not have a particular passion, but I personally believe that every student who comes to me is meant to be there-that the universe has its own reason for bringing us together at that moment. There are forces beyond my control that lead me to each teaching encounter, and because of that, I make it a point to give my best and make the most of our time. What's truly fulfilling for me is knowing that, even within the limits of our time together, I've done everything I can to honour, support and serve them well.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I am convinced that within each individual lies the seed of lifelong learning. My role is to nurture that seed-ensuring it remains resilient through challenges and ready to bloom when the time is right. I don't take credit for my students' successes, because it is ultimately their own choices and growth that shape their journey; I simply teach them where to look, not what to see.
