About Travis
In my over a decade studying sound synthesis, gestural digital musical instruments, and music technology, I have gained a deep theoretical and practical mastery of sound synthesis techniques, from analog modular to FM to spectral audio and lots more. In my experience teaching music technology at McGill University, I have discovered my deep passion for sharing these insights, and helping others learn to deeply understand and control sound synthesis. My students have described me as "clearly passionate", and "highly knowledgeable, with the spirit of a pedagogue." They say that I have an "engaging style of teaching" that is "very humorous." I have noticed that many musicians' and producers' passion for sound synthesis, sound design, and mixing is hampered by the feeling that they don't quite understand how each knob and slider works. Many more are tired of cycling through presets to find the sounds they want. In my experience teaching music technology at McGill University, I have developed a unique project-based approach to teaching sound synthesis that prioritizes hands on practice designing sounds while building a strong theoretical foundation for understanding all the nuances of sound synthesis technique. I can help any serious student to level up their sound synthesis knowledge and know-how, helping you to create the sounds you imagine and discover those you never could have.
