About Sampo
This employment agency asks me to demonstrate my confidence and justify my legitimacy, as well as to convince you that I would be your best teacher.
If only it were done the other way around: search globally with my unique name for everything I have said and done publicly. For a long time, all the way back to -95. I have lived my online life very publicly. Search my site, look at my public Fese profile, search the archives of mailing lists, and for example the comp.compression FAQ. That history reveals a rather eccentric person, but at the same time a guy who is genuinely interested in luma topics, from edge to edge, and has long ago been able to talk about them at a so-called level.

My teaching method is classical, i.e. proven. It starts with piecemeal theory followed by exercises, continuous review of what has been learned, and the Socratic method where I ask questions, leading when necessary. I prefer the traditional pen and paper, harp and ruler. I also aim to build a structural understanding of mathematics before mechanical exercises.
My special feature as a teacher is my extensive knowledge base in other fields, and my ability to connect mathematics, even at a fairly high level, to a variety of practical problems. Also, my way of treating mathematics as an intuitive, creative structure.
As a teacher, I would probably be most useful to those who are already genuinely interested in mathematics, including related sciences, at the late high school and lower university level. I am not a support teacher, but a mentor. I would be better at geometric topics than algebraic ones. Depending on the situation, I can also be logically demanding; I believe that the ultimate goal is to understand and prove, not just to do calculations by rote.
