I graduated from Biola University and USC with bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Engineering, after which I enrolled in and graduated from Summit Learning Teacher Residency with a credential in teaching chemistry. If you're somewhere between middle school and high school and needing support in science and math, I'm here to help! Not only do I have experience in tutoring math and science, but I also have a teaching certificate in chemistry and have taught high school chemistry for the last 6 years. My background as a teacher means I have insight into how the education system works and can suggest common resources that may be available to you at your school, I can also support you in positively collaborating with your own teacher.
During a session, I will always check in with you to see if there's something specific you want to get out of our time together. I want to make sure you feel like your time spent is helpful to you. But I also understand that sometimes it can be daunting to fully know what you need support with. As they say, you don't know what you don't know. I will generally ask what you're currently learning in class so that I can get an idea of what topics you are working on. From there, the rest of our time each session will be some combination of content review/re-teaching, preparation for class, and/or application of skills via problems.
My teaching style focuses on skills and building routines. My firm belief is that if you have a strong foundation in skills and problem-solving routines, the context may change but you’ll still have an idea of how to approach it.
