About Anushka
I hold a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). I have been in academia for several years. Evidence from my PhD study has aided greatly in the design/development of long-term seed storage protocols for the conservation of recalcitrant seeds and I have published four international peer-reviewed papers of which three emanated from my PhD study. During my PhD and MSc studies, I worked as a lecturer for the University of KwaZulu-Natal and University of South Africa. I have experience in developing educational material and was employed by UNISA as a tutor for several years and as a critical writer to develop a Biology module.After completing my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Protein Structure and Function research laboratory housed at the University of the Witwatersrand in Cancer research.

I try to use different teaching methods to assist students. In groups I use the I use pop quizzes, discussions, brainstorming, short assignments . I encourage self-learning by giving students real life examples to find information on that is relevant to the module. I try to encourage online participation by posting interesting facts related to the module/ videos. Encourage students to provide input and thoughts by posing indepth questions on the subject I am teaching. I try to encourage group acctivities even within an online environment by assigning activities that require students to interact with each other. Self-learning is encourages by providing students with well layed out presentation slides, handouts and resources that can be referenced.
