About Risa
I began playing the flute 9 years ago, drawn to its warm tone and expressive possibilities. Over time, I pursued formal training in classical performance, tone development, and woodwind artistry, taking part in specialized workshops that deepened my technical approach. Teaching became a meaningful extension of my musical life as I realized how fulfilling it is to help students build their skills and find their own artistic identity. Working with learners from diverse backgrounds has taught me to value different perspectives and adapt my teaching with sensitivity and respect. I aim to create a patient and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring new skills. I use digital tuning tools, guided breathing exercises, demonstration clips, and personalized practice plans to make lessons engaging and clear. My teaching philosophy emphasizes gentle guidance, thoughtful correction, and consistent support, allowing each student to progress at a pace that feels authentic to them. Whether a learner is preparing for a performance or simply exploring music for enjoyment, I provide structure and encouragement to help them grow confidently. Outside of teaching, I continue performing, collaborating with other musicians, and participating in ongoing training to expand my skills. Music has shaped my life with creativity, connection, and emotional depth, and I bring that passion into every lesson. Guiding students to develop their musical voice remains one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

Flute lessons with me are structured to create a calm, supportive, and motivating musical environment where students can strengthen both technique and expressive playing. I encourage learners to understand the instrument through breath control, tone shaping, and mindful listening, allowing them to grow at a comfortable pace. My teaching style blends technical clarity with musical sensitivity, guiding students to build confidence while exploring the artistic side of performance. Lessons incorporate a balance of warm-ups, repertoire work, and musical interpretation so students feel grounded in fundamentals while enjoying creative discovery. I aim to help each learner connect deeply with sound and expression in a stress-free, inspiring space.
Lessons are carefully adapted across skill levels. Beginners start with posture, embouchure basics, breath consistency, simple melodies, and early rhythm awareness. Intermediate players expand into articulation work, scale fluency, dynamic shaping, vibrato control, and interpretive phrasing. Advanced students refine tone color, technical speed, stylistic nuance, ensemble awareness, and audition preparation. Weekly tasks may include etudes, tone studies, guided listening, structured practice routines, and expressive drills. For students preparing for performances or exams, I offer focused coaching on clarity, musical storytelling, and stage presence.
Many students find that flute study enhances more than musical skill—it strengthens focus, patience, and emotional awareness. The discipline of breathwork helps create calm, while expressive phrasing encourages creativity. I strive to help students discover confidence through their musical voice, growing not only as instrumentalists but also as thoughtful, expressive individuals.
