About Hanmin
What sets me apart is my bicultural background. Since I have lived for more than 12 years in Korea and more than 12 years in Canada, I understand how Korean learners think from both sides. I can explain Korean in a way that makes sense to English speakers while still teaching the natural expressions, tone, and cultural awareness used by native Koreans.
My strength is making Korean feel less intimidating and more practical. I do not simply teach textbook Korean. I help students understand how Korean is used in real conversations, social situations, work settings, online messages, media, and everyday life.
My experience in translation, interpretation, communication, and teaching also allows me to explain language with clarity and detail. I am patient, adaptable, and focused on helping each student gain confidence step by step.

My approach as a Korean tutor is based on more than just teaching grammar and vocabulary. Having lived in Korea for over 12 years and in Canada for over 12 years, I understand both Korean and English-speaking cultures from the inside. This allows me to teach Korean in a way that is practical, relatable, and easy for English-speaking students to understand.
I help students learn not only how to say something in Korean, but also when, why, and in what social context certain expressions are used. Korean is deeply connected to tone, politeness, age, relationship, and situation, so I guide students through both the language and the cultural thinking behind it.
My teaching method is personalized, structured, and conversation-focused. I first identify each student’s level, goals, interests, and learning style, then build lessons around what they actually need.
For beginners, I focus on Hangul, pronunciation, basic grammar, sentence structure, and essential everyday expressions. For intermediate students, I help improve speaking confidence, listening comprehension, vocabulary range, and natural sentence-building. For advanced students, I focus on nuance, tone, idioms, cultural context, writing, translation, discussion, and more natural communication.
Because I have lived and studied in both Korea and Canada, I can clearly explain the differences between Korean and English sentence structures, expressions, and cultural expectations. Instead of giving direct word-for-word translations, I explain how Koreans actually speak in real situations.
My lessons often include pronunciation correction, grammar explanation, role-play, guided conversation, listening practice, sentence-building, real-life examples, and cultural notes. I also help students understand common mistakes English speakers make when learning Korean.
