Extremely approachable and knowledgeable lecturer, teacher and tutor of A-level Chemistry, with a PhD and many years experience of teaching in outstanding sixth form colleges in the Manchester area.

The way Jon teaches follows a well- sequenced, chronological format which really builds your understanding from the ground up, and helps you apply what you learnt along the way.

Each topic he taught me was well structured into subsections that made the content feel a little bit more accessible, and made chemistry seem slightly easier and more fun.

By chunking and actively revisiting old topics, Jon makes for an incredible tutor. But, because he was positive, friendly and was able to answer all my questions, it made the lessons he taught me really stick with me. His attitude also motivated me to study really hard and to make him proud, which is something important to feel as a student.

This is why even 6 months after sitting my A-levels, i can honestly say that i still remember most of the fantastic mnemonics that i was taught for topics such as atomic structure (SPNAI/PINI) and organic practicals 10a/10b (CFWD/DFCFWD), in addition to the answer frameworks for topics such as alkenes, transition metals and electrode potentials. The exam technique he taught me was quite remarkable and really consistent, which is due to his knowledge and because he keeps up with any mark scheme changes that happen.

My only advice is to trust Jon’s teaching, learn from his exam technique and to find out what his mnemonics above mean because they’re really what made the difference for me, between him and other tutors. Because of my A* in chemistry, I was able to secure a spot at Keele university to study medicine, which was possible because of him.

Jon tutored my son for A level Chemistry. I can’t recommend Jon highly enough. His lessons were engaging and my son enjoyed each one. He passed his A level chemistry with flying colours. Having had several tutors for various lessons previously I can honestly say Jon is the best.
