About Trinity

Hello, I’m Sophie, an experienced English teacher and education consultant. Over the past ten years I’ve supported students and families in the UK and internationally, helping them to achieve their goals with confidence and clarity.

I tutor across a wide range of subjects, from English, Criminology and Religious Studies to nursing, health & social care, politics, and business, but I am best known for my expertise in school admissions and exam preparation. My students have successfully secured places and scholarships at leading independent schools.

I provide tailored preparation for:

11+ entry (including verbal reasoning and creative writing)

13+ admissions and Common Entrance

UKISET for international applicants

GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature (Edexcel, AQA, OCR, IGCSE)

All of my students have achieved strong results, often beyond what they believed possible. I know how to spot the small details examiners are looking for, and I give practical, constructive feedback that students find motivating.

Alongside school entry, I also support university applications with personal statement guidance, essay feedback, and interview coaching, including for highly competitive routes such as Oxbridge.

Families describe me as calm, approachable, and professional. I combine encouragement with structure so that students build both confidence and academic rigour. I’ve worked with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, from high-profile and international families to local students and I always aim to deliver a supportive, personal service.

If you’re looking for thoughtful, dedicated guidance for school admissions, exam preparation, or academic success more broadly, I’d love to help.

I am an experienced English, GCSE & Creative Writing tutor.

My expertise covers the following areas; 10+, 11+, 13+, GCSE, IGCSE, UKISET and general Entrance Exam support. I am familiar with the syllabus needed for these exams and how to get the best marks. I have a student-centred and practical approach to our lessons, which focuses on technique, analytical skills and how to improve the quality of one's writing.

Through this, students have successfully gained places at City of London Girls, St Paul's, Merchant Taylors' and Habs. Additionally, the vast majority of students have achieved Grade 8 & 9 (A/A*) in their GCSE English Literature & Language exams. For international students, I can offer extensive knowledge of the UK education system and the standards required to succeed in these competitive exams.

I also offer interview preparation and intensive courses. Lessons take place over Zoom, although they are 100% human powered - I do not use Chat GPT/AI - and focus on the old school methods of quality tutoring and a genuine interaction with my students.

Please get in touch if you would like to book a lesson or have any further queries. Please include your availability in the message.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I began teaching the English language in 2012 and worked as an assistant in many schools across London. I even worked as a swimming teacher during university & as a part-time EAL teacher. However, I began to tutor full time in 2017 after graduating from my MA in English Literature & Creative Writing
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I tutor an extremely diverse range of topics & subjects - everything from criminology to English Language, nursing and business. Some projects I have worked on recently include IB English Literature where we are analysing prose and poetry, working for a removal company in London (improving their in-house writing style and sales techniques). I have also been working with a Communications & Public Speaking student, who needed to boost their confidence with writing and delivering speeches. I have an open mind and lifelong passion for learning, although I must admit - I am much more suited to language and writing than mathematics.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I had some fantastic English & History teachers all the way through my education - I'm eternally grateful to my Year 12 student for teaching me how to analyse poetry successfully and more recently - my university lecturers for their harsh, but extremely constructive feedback on how to write excellent essays. Through these experiences, I am able to help my students analyse and structure their work to an extremely high standard.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Flexibility, patience and a sense of humour. A genuine interest in the subject you are teaching also helps. O
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I was a restless student, but my English Teacher recognised my talent for literature & writing, helping me achieve an A* in my exams and one of the highest grades in my school.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

As a natural problem solver, I enjoy the challenges that tutoring brings. Dissecting large amounts of text can often be tiring, but ultimately rewarding.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am passionate about life long learning - I have an open mind and love developing my understanding of different concepts and ideas.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

Being a dedicated, hard-working and passionate tutor, with a student-centred approach!
