About Michael
I am a skilled and passionate teacher with over 10 years experience and a sincere desire to help students grow!
My studio is unique in that I welcome all players, from many different backgrounds. A large portion of my studio comprises of adult beginners, who discover that they have what it takes to learn and play violin.
I am friendly, patient, kind, and work with students of all ages.
I am a performer and teacher with bachelors in Violin performance, and am beginning work on graduate studies. I was trained classically, and also find myself playing within a wide range of generes. My joy in life is helping students connect with music that inspires them, and giving them the tools to play it.

The process of learning is fascinating to me. I love giving students a seeminly impossible task, only to watch them figure it out and overcome. My greatest joy is when my students are set up with enough know how to be able to play music that excites them.
I had friends ask me if I could set them up with enough basics to play, and discovered that I loved it! I have had the good fortune of having many teaching positions over the years, and am still as passionate as day one.
I hold a BMU from The University of Utah, with a master's degree equivalency in string pedagogy, which I studied under Dr. Kasia Sokol-Borup.

I try to learn as much about my students as possible to help asses what their goals are, and how I can best be of service to them. I am flexible in my teaching styles to ensure each student's learning style is being taken in to account.
Brand new students are the easiest, as I have a sequence of pedagogy that quickly and effectively gives them the tools to play. With students that have playing experience, sometimes we work backwards to identify their specific technique blocks, and help them overcome.

Michael is a great teacher. He is enthusiastic, dedicated and loves working with kids. He works magic with getting kids motivated. Our son who was 7-8 at the time learnt a lot under his direction, lessons seemed to be fun every time. We miss Michael but wish him best with his studies!
I have been taking lessons with Michael for about a year now and it has been an absolute joy. Michael has always encouraged me to find music that I love which has made it so I always look forward to our lessons and to practicing on my own. I am delighted at how much progress I have made after only a year. As an adult, beginner student, Michael has been incredibly flexible with my schedule. When the pandemic hit, we seamlessly transitioned to virtual lessons until it was safe for us to practice in person again (distantly and outside). Michael's love for the violin and for teaching is obvious which makes being his student a wonderful experience.
Michael is the greatest teacher! He offers feedback in a very positive, constructive way. He also encourages his students to play whatever their heart desires. Michael is so charismatic and knowledgeable about the violin. His passion for it is contagious! Highly, highly recommend!
It was AMAZING, I learned so many new things. And I had so much fun. All in all, Michael is awesome.

Typically, I charge $65 for a full hour lesson, and $45 for half an hour lessons, although rates are negotiable depending on certain families incomes.
