There is nothing more rewarding than seeing that spark of passion for music in a student. When a lightbulb goes off or a new idea piques the interest, those are the moments I enjoy most about teaching. I hope that each student leaves their lesson EXCITED to go home and practice their music!

The first lesson has two main goals:
I need to know what the student's abilities are, and I need to know what the student's interests are.
In the beginning, I mostly want to hear the student play fundamental exercises to see what their abilities are on the trumpet. Assessing the student's tone is paramount and will dictate many of our lesson activities.
I also need to know what type of music the student likes, why he/she enjoys playing trumpet, how he/she practices (and how much), and what they enjoy doing outside of playing music.
With these two questions answered, we've established the foundation to a successful series of lessons.
