About Mary
Multisensory Language Tutoring educates students in language concepts and integrates their senses through tactile, visual auditory, and kinesthetic ways. The focus of the lesson is the structure and use of sounds, syllables, words, sentences, and written expression. Orton Gillingham approach is utilized to teach language in a direct, systematic, cumulative, and sequential manner.
I am a NYS certified teacher and Nationally certified in Multisensory Structured Language Education which is an Orton Gillingham approach. I have a master's of science in education and an additional two year post-masters program in Multisensory Language Education from Teachers College Columbia University.

Assessment of phonological awareness, rapid automatic naming, reading readiness - letter recognition, sequencing, and oral language skills are needed. A major factor in learning to read effectively is learning the sound- symbol correspondences of written English, and the six syllable types. In addition, students need to understand morphology which is the smallest unit of language, base words, prefixes, suffixes, roots, and combining them to form meaning. Next, students need to understand the rules of syllable division, and spelling. Practice in writing, and reading comprehension is also part of the lesson.
