About Samantha
I am a recent graduate of Snow College with a Bachelor's in Music with an emphasis in Commercial Music. I've been studying piano for over ten years! I also have several years' experience with teaching young children, teens, and adults - I've taught piano, ski and swim lessons intermittently for the past 8 years.
I teach piano to ages 5+ from my condo in the Liberty Wells/Central City area. I use stickers, encouragement, patience, and occasional (regular) treats to drive my students to be the best they can be... whatever that may be.
Music helps children perform better in school, helps their cognitive development, and improves their psychological well-being. My goal is to help my students develop a love for music like my own in order to provide them the tools they need for a brighter, more fulfilling future.
I truly love seeing my students every week. I love to hear about their good days and bad days and I enjoy watching them learn and develop into the wonderful humans they all are!
I have a Bachelor of Music with emphasis in Commercial Music from Snow College. I studied piano under Peggy Dalton for 10 years and trumpet under Dr. David Blackinton, former BYU band director, at Snow College for 5 years. I've taught various skills to children, teens, and adults for the past 9 years.

Something that is very important to me is rapport. At the first lesson we will immediately start getting to know each other and we'll begin the process of feeling at ease in lessons. I'll take the student through some questions and ask them to display some skills they may or may not know to get a feel for what they may need or not need. Each lesson is different, and I strive to meet each individual's needs while making lessons fun and challenging.
I've taught piano to students between 4 and 25 years old.
I've worked with students of all ages, skill levels, interest levels, etc.
Look for an instructor that provides more than usual skill direction such as rhythm, notes, phrasing, technique, etc. Look for someone that loves music and loves teaching. Music is more than technique. An instructor should realize this and love teaching enough to work toward the greater goal of joy with the student, as well as helping them master solos and improve technique.
A student's very best at a given time might not be very good, and that's ok.
One of my students came in on the very first day telling me that she knew Mary Had A Little Lamb. I learned that what she meant is that she knew that very first bar of the song. So I wrote the rest out for her and was so pleased when she came back the next week with the entire song memorized! It's fun to see what students get excited about.
