Each student in an individual.  I listen to the student playing during the interview and place them at the level they are comfortable.

I've worked with all types and kinds of students, but at this time I am concentrating on the dedicated student.  I have mostly boys, but all my students are all fairly competitive and practice a lot.

Ask to interview a teacher and have some repertoire to perform and also demonstrate skills with scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions. Ask about festivals, exams, etc. that interests the student.

Three of my students just participated in premiering new modern music at the "In Good Hands" sponsored by the Cascadia Composers.  The student got to meet the composer of their music and work with him.  Earlier this spring two of my students accompanied a local ballet company.  All students take written and performance exams and play a concerto and accompany another student's concerto.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask about time availability and how much practice time is required.  Fees should also be discussed.
