About Heidi

With a music degree from the prestigious Indiana University School of Music, I am a professional singer with appearances on and off-Broadway, on tour nationally, and in major performing arts venues around the country. I studied voice with many of the world’s finest voice teachers in New York City including the vocal coaches of Bernadette Peters, Betty Buckley, Patti Lupone, Cyndi Lauper, and Steven Tyler. I have sung leading roles in numerous professional musical theatre productions, both high belt and legit styles. I have also performed with symphony orchestras at the Kennedy Center and around the country and have designed over a dozen symphonic music education programs for children in grades K – 8. I am a fully certified Orff-Schulwerk instructor with professional development specialties in jazz for children and world music. I currently run the Orff Schulwerk program for the elementary grades at Creative Learning Place in Los Angeles and have run The College-Bound Literature and Theatre Lab, a musical theatre lab program for high school students, for 15 years. With the diversity of my training, I am excited to nurture and inspire my students to become the most expressive and passionate singers and musicians they can be!

I love helping people of all ages and backgrounds find their voices and connect them to their passions, emotions, and very core. When a new singer begins to feel their voices set free, there is a kind of exhilaration that is hard to match! Singing is so intertwined with our sense of ourselves and I take great joy in supporting people in finding ways to express the music within them through their own unique voice.

Our first lesson lets us get to know each other and talk about the student's goals and the kinds of singing they most enjoy.  For new singers, I introduce explanations, pictures, and exercises that help them understand how the voice works and how our bodies support our developing voices.  I work gently and encouragingly with each student, developing a set of vocal exercises and repertoire uniquely suited to their needs and goals.  Each week, we work on both exercises and repertoire that support the singer in making progress and learning to feel their placement and breathing to develop their healthy voices.  After each lesson, I message each student a practice sheet and recordings designed specifically for them to build on what we worked on in our lesson and move forward together!
