About Kay
I am a Black singer-songwriter and actress from High Point, North Carolina. Coming from a family of musicians, my passion for the performing arts has led to her training in several fields including film/television, theatre, classical performance, and R&B performance. I received my Bachelors of Arts degrees in Music and Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I am currently working on her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College. I plan to build a performance career that spans across genres. I strive for a duality that is exemplified in the freedom and emotional range that soul music demands and the disciplined conflict that taking space in the classical realm entails.
As a voice teacher, I place a strong emphasis the individuality of each of my students. I base my teaching methods in classical technique so that everyone can establish a healthy basis of phonation and then we begin to expand on that healthy technique into the genres that really interest my students. My studio stands out because through classical training, I have found that all genres of music and vocal pedagogy can be equally efficient and rewarding for the human voice. I pride myself in knowing that I have created a space where artists in every genre and can come and train as their full, authentic selves.

I really enjoy helping people cross into a more healthy relationship with their voice. It all starts with confidence and wellness withinthe body, mind, and spirit. From there, we can really sing anything with the proper support and technique!
I began teaching students when I was 17 years old as one of the voice leaders in my church band.
I have two bachelor degrees from UNC Chapel Hill and I am in the process of receiving my Masters of Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music at Bard College.

I begin with having the students fill out my questionnare so that I can get to know them a little bit more. Then we begin establishing our technique with the breath and body mapping. Once the student acquires some breath coordination, we will move on to simple songs in both the classical field and their chosen genre of study that help them add more nuance to their technique depending on what I hear in their voice.
I've worked with students of all ages with interests in both classical performance, rock, and rhythm & blues.
