About Amy
I'm a graduate from the Yale School of Music with 10 years of teaching experience. I regularly perform with the Orchestra NOW at Bard College. I will begin playing with the Cincinnati Symphony in the fall of 2020. I have experience in teaching all levels, and I enjoy getting to know you and your playing!
Ive always has the passion of playing in a professional orchestra since I was 6 years old. I began violin at age 6 and later switched to the double bass seven years later. I have now been playing bass for 13 years, and I have been playing professionally for about 6 years. I enjoy teaching students who are eager to learn and I enjoy teaching students who want to learn new musical material. I've worked with students from all ages, from 3 years old to adulthood, as well as all levels with no background in music to college level experience.
I've always had a passion for teaching the double bass. I began with the Nat King Cole Foundation Hope Inc. in teaching students with fewer resources. I llantera began teaching students in the public school system and in the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County. At Yale University, I was a teaching fellow for their Music in School Initiative program. This allowed me to travel to various public schools in the greater New Haven area introducing my knowledge of the instrument.
I received a bachelor's in music performance at the Lynn Conservatory in Boca Raton. I later received my Master of Music Degree from the Yale school of Music in New Haven. My major professors have been Tim Cobb, principal of the New York Philharmonic, and Donald Palma, founding member of the Orpheus Chamber Group.

We first begin deciding what level the student is at before we continue to technical ideas. Next, we develop the skills to interpret various musical styles, such as classical, jazz, pop, etc. While we discover what is in the student's best interest, then we begin the technical process of finding a comfortable way to play your instrument. Within the technical side, we will work on scales, rhythmic exercises, and most importantly, tonality and pitch fundamentals.
I've worked with all kinds of students, such as very advanced to having no musical skills. I've also worked with students with the fewest resources that can not afford to take lessons and have grown up in rough households through the Nat King Cole program.
Make sure you enjoy the person who is teaching you. Have a personal, but mutual, connection with the professor so you can communicate what you want to get out of the lesson.
