About Chris
I really enjoy math. All throughout school and even now that I am in college I love math. I've been working at my college as a tutor for a year and a half at my college, and am level 2 college reading and learning association (CRLA) certified.
Helping others understand things better. It's a great feeling to help someone understand something they thought they would never understand. I love helping people gain confidence in things they struggle with, and seeing that transition from frustrated to confident
I was helping friends of mine with math and basic college engineering classes and they seemed to respond positively and understand the material better, so I would say that's where I got started
I have been working at my college as a tutor for a full semester and into this current summer. I am currently working on a tutoring certification, with the intention of completing the program in the next couple of weeks

The first thing I like to do when working with a new student is figure out what the student wants out of tutoring. Whether the student is just looking for extra guided practice to make sure they're on the right track or lost and confused and looking for help understanding everything plays a huge role in determining how to set up sessions. I then like to figure out the best way the student learns. Some students prefer doing a lot of examples to understand the concept, whereas some prefer a visual approach.
A lot of the students I have worked with have wanted to learn about the topic, but either was not very motivated or was struggling with the concepts. I have had students who more or less knew what they were doing and just looking for extra practice, and some who were lost and needed a lot of help
Look for a tutor that teaches the way you like to be taught. Also, if your tutor rushes to give you the answers, that person is not doing their job well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Where am I struggling? Do I think I can't learn this? (you always can, by the way, it's just harder for some people than others, no one is good at everything) How much help do I need?
