About Brent
At Compass Learning, we believe every student has the potential to excel in STEM, and the right guide can make all the difference.
I'm Brent, a PhD-trained Biomolecular Engineer from Johns Hopkins University and Co-Founder of a biotech startup. My academic journey began at 16 at Carnegie Mellon University, where I earned a Gates Scholarship and double-majored in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, followed by a Master's in Biomedical Engineering before heading to Hopkins for my doctorate.
I bring that same real-world scientific rigor into every tutoring session. Whether we're working through calculus, chemistry, or core engineering concepts, I connect the material to how science actually works in practice, from the lab bench to the startup world.
Beyond subject mastery, I also mentor students on college applications, fellowship pursuits, and scholarship strategy. Having navigated elite academic programs and competitive funding myself, I know what it takes to stand out and how to help you get there.
