About Hezekiah
Hi there. My name is Hezzy. I have a deep passion for private tutoring, especially the aspect of tailoring lessons to fit each student as an individual. I believe a little understanding and genuine empathy go a long way in the learning process.
My professional background spans a wide range of ages, schooling formats, and learning styles, with particular emphasis on special education and homeschooling. I strive to meet every learner exactly where they are and help them move forward with confidence.
I’ve always had a great fondness for children, and over time, I realized that what I valued most wasn’t managing a full classroom but rather connecting with individuals. Even in group settings, I was always drawn to the one-on-one moments, helping a single student work through something in a way that made sense to them personally.
Many educators, even the well-meaning ones, admit they struggle to reach certain students. I’ve found that I often connect with learners who’ve been labeled “difficult,” “disruptive,” or simply “too different.” I want to fill a gap that exists in many educational spaces: the need for genuine, individualized support that meets students where they are and helps them grow in a way that’s truly their own.
I graduated from Pasadena City College at the end of 2021 with associate degrees in all of the following subjects:
Anthropology
Child Development
Child & Adolescent Development
Early Childhood Education
Humanities
Linguistics
Natural Sciences
Social & Behavioral Sciences
In 2019, I received Honors for Superior Achievement in Anthropology, and I was the recipient of a special Certificate of Achievement from PCC’s Teacher Preparation Program in 2022.
I am certified in CPR and first aid and have received extensive emergency safety training with all ages.
I’ve had the privilege of working professionally in a private preschool setting with children ages 2–5 as well as an Early Childhood Education Center with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
I have been working in the field of early childhood education since 2016 and as a private tutor for students of all ages since 2018, including students with diagnoses such as autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, and developmental delay.
I am currently attending Arizona Christian University in pursuit of a bachelor’s in Secondary Education with a Focus in Mathematics.

I like to spend time getting to know a student in order to discover where their true strengths and struggles lie. I don’t believe there’s a single teaching method that works for everyone, but I do my best to make every lesson as enjoyable and engaging as possible.
Most of my work involves hands-on materials and interactive activities, along with an approach that encourages students to reach conclusions on their own rather than simply having information handed down. In all branches of mathematics especially, I place high value on deep understanding over surface-level memorization.
For younger students, I expect ongoing communication with parents or guardians to help with long-term goal setting and progress tracking. Teens and adults usually have more autonomy in expressing their needs and shaping their learning experience.
I’ve supported individuals from a variety of cultural and familial backgrounds, each bringing their own unique set of circumstances to the table.
Some students have arrived with diagnosed disabilities, developmental delays, or existing IEP or 504 plans. Others simply needed a more personalized approach than what they were receiving elsewhere. I take pride in being highly responsive to each student’s needs and goals, and I aim to offer support that feels both respectful and genuinely effective.
Finding the right person to learn from is just as important as finding the right doctor or therapist; without the ability to communicate effectively or understand each other’s perspectives, progress can be difficult.
The best teachers are those who make learning feel interesting rather than burdensome, and who create an environment where students feel safe, respected, and free to speak openly. Look for someone who’s willing to work with you, not just assign work to you.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be as specific as possible when asking for help. Teachers genuinely want to support their students, but a vague statement like “I need help with math” doesn’t communicate much. Instead, take time to reflect on exactly what’s confusing you, and try asking something like, “I understand how to calculate the slope of a line, but I’m not sure how to graph it after that. Can you help me learn how?”
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
First and foremost to me as a Dad is safety and trust: Hezzy was referred to me by my son's 2 closest friends' parents, who are thrilled with Hezzy on all levels - Hezzy is a very honest, kind, ethical and trustworthy person, and an excellent tutor / educator. Both parents told me their son's grades have been going up, especially in Math and English. My son (16 yrs.) and I are very happy with Hezzy. Hezzy has been working with my son for about a year and a half, and his Math understanding has been improving significantly, and his grade has gone up. His confidence in Math is much greater as well. Highly recommend Hezzy!

Details
I offer a free introductory session for new students so we can get to know one another, talk through goals, and decide if it’s a good fit before scheduling regular lessons.
Standard one-on-one tutoring begins at $30 per hour, with a minimum 1-hour payment. Most sessions are scheduled for 60, 90, or 120 minutes, depending on the student’s needs and attention span.
Family discounts are offered at a rate of $55 per hour for 2 students or $80 per hour for 3 students.
I kindly ask that any damaged or destroyed materials be reimbursed or replaced as appropriate.
For sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, I ask that the full session price be paid. For sessions rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice, I ask for half of the original session price. This policy helps ensure mutual respect for everyone's time and schedule.
If a student arrives late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time. In the event of a no-show without notice, the session will be charged in full.
I accept payment by cash, check, Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo on whatever payment schedule works best for you.
