About Briana

I focus on a postive experience based in my own experiences as both a student and a teacher. Positive means not only being encouraging, but more importantly, striving to give the rider useful and relevant feedback at all moments. Ideally, I want to work with students willing to reflect on what just happened and learn how to be a better leader for their horse, both when I'm present and when they are on their own.

Helping people become better partners with their horses. Most horses always do exactly what they think their rider is saying. The challenge is for a rider to have enough self-awareness to realize what it is they are "saying" to the horse both intentionally and un-intentionally. Namely, what are you doing that is actually getting in the way of your horse understanding what you want, rather than what you "said." I focus on helping riders be calm, confident, and clear in their communciation with their equine partner. I hope to help students to become the trusted leader that your horse will turn to and strive to please you.

First by just helping others.  Later in life, I actually took up teaching biology at the college level as a profession.  I view the instructor's job to be to explain things that are not obvious and create an environment or situation condusive to the students (rider and horse) relaxation and focus so that the feedback I provide is useful.



I have ridden for over 35 years. Everything from bombing around trails bareback as kid, to swimming with horses at the beach and then to becoming a serious competitor. I strive to help my horse be a better athlete and myself to be a better partner.

About the lesson

First session will be spent getting to know both horse and rider.  Past history, challenges and successes.  I talk extensively with each client to identify initial goals and craft a plan to reach those goals.



I enjoy working with all students from those with little or no previous experience, to those who may have ridden for years, but wish to improve the clarity and effectiveness of their communication and performance. 



Ask about the instructor's philosophy and approach.  Make sure that the instructor's methods and background are compatible with your goals.  If possible, go and observe the instructor giving a lesson to another student and assess how it makes you feel.

Details

Standard lesson is $50.  Each lesson will last approximately 1 hour.  Longer sessions can be arranged on an individual basis if needed.  I am willing to travel up to 50 miles (from Athens AL) to student's location.
