About Bree

Riding lessons available on a variety of horses. I have a strong dressage foundation but grew up riding western and also have extensive experience in show jumping.

Come learn to ride from the very beginning on up to advanced on some fabulous lesson horses from an equestrian, trainer, judge, and coach of 30 years. We also incorporate horsemanship classes to the program so all students have the opportunity to learn horse skills like grooming, tacking, anatomy, learning about horse thinking, injuries, etc.

I think every instructor especially enjoys the a-ha moments. I particularly enjoy demystifying horse training and dressage. I am full of riding and training theory, and think that understanding each other (horse and human) creates the best partnerships.

I love watching students grow and gain more empathy for what the horse might be feeling, when to be the strong leader and when to subtly "suggest". Reading body language, correct timing, and tact are critical in both riding and in life.

I went to college for horses, studied teaching, training, massage, biomechanics in depth.  I was a working student for 3 years under international level trainers.  I'm a USDF "L" graduate (with distinction) - thats a dressage thing.  I'm also a USDF bronze and silver medalist.  - another dressage thing.

I've been teaching professionally for over 20 years, and am lately working on bringing a new discipline to the area called working equitation which combines dressage, western, obstacles course riding, and sometimes cattle work into one discipline.

If the student has experience I like to more or less get a feel for where they are at in their riding.  I start at the beginning but let them "have the reins" a bit, and show me what they know.  I'll ask some questions, see what I find for holes, and do what I can to fill them in.

If its a new student with zero experience, we start by grooming, tacking, and eventually riding.  Learning about the tack and safety as we go.  I'll sometimes allow the student to lead the horse with me leading on the other side to be sure all are safe and having a positive experience.  I usually have students learning to trot within a month, and steering on their own at walk (somewhat) in 1-3 lessons depending on age and ability.
