About Theodore
I only reply to prospective students who write (copy/paste) the following in their Student Profile "Message":
"I have watched at least 10 minutes of videos on Milo Lines YouTube Golf Channel and this athletic approach is the methodology I want to learn."
I teach Milo's methodology:
- WATCH my YouTube video: "TRYTED4$50 Training Overview" [7:30] and other of my videos @tedwilliams4833,
- AND see the Comment section and see Milo's Comment on my video stating, (concealed information)
"Seems you have watched and understood my coaching well!!"
In this way you would know what to expect from the lessons and you would have a massive library of training videos on our respective YT Channels to support your practice and understanding between lessons.
In short, my golf teaching approach includes:
1) body movement training drills borrowed from 'Milo Lines Golf' and 'Elite Golf' YouTube channels [we are all lockstep in this certain methodology - see #short video links herein], plus
2) hand/wrist movement drills learned from my original mentor, Peter Croker, PGA-Australia [Croker Golf System - which I am certified to teach].
The drills are the fastest way to ingrain the true movements and "feels" we need in order to have a powerful, repeatable and dependable golf swing.
The drills build from simple to a bit more complex - but not to worry, the drills never really get complex per se because we build up step by step into the more involved movement patterns.
Ideally, here are how the first couple of lessons would go, and beyond in general.
First Lesson: Key Concepts And Key Movement Patterns:
1) the body's key movement pattern drills to feel how the body action is the source of motion for the club, and
2) the key hand/wrist movement patterns that marry up with what the club "wants" to do [and related drills] using Croker Golf System concepts [for which I am certified to teach] for the hand/wrist action, and
3) how the hand/wrist action matches up with how the body moves [including related drills to experience those basic movements and "feels"].
Second Lesson: Further Honing Isolated Body and Isolated Hand/Wrist Movement Drills AND More Drills For Matching Up Body Action With Hand/Wrist Action.
- I introduce more advanced drills to further ingrain isolated movement patterns, AND more drills focusing on matching up body action with hand action.
In future lessons we would continue to work on:
1) honing the matchup between the body action and hand/wrist matchup action, and
2) honing in on that matchup in terms of focusing in precisely on how to get the club face interaction with the ball at impact needed to hit the ball straight with good trajectory.
We would also start to hone in on the "feels" that we need to have in our pre-shot routine so we get good results on the golf course.
Future lessons would also cover chipping and putting [probably at Copper Ridge Golf Club's practice green in Davison off of Atherton Rd.].
===========================
Between lessons I provide lots of visual content - I text a number of one-minute videos to my students with a note...below are example texts:
"1-minute Milo GREAT - exact rhythm-pattern with club head lagging going back AND lagging going down-forward."
(concealed information)
"1-minute Elite Golf - Spiraling-rotating upper body action explanation-demonstration"

"1-minute #short Rory McIlroy - Great drill, Great visual, Great pre-shot routine move to rehearse for the "feel" we want in our golf swing."

Additional:
I have been teaching-coaching for about 4 decades, starting at Cranbrook Institute teaching tennis at 16 years old [I'll get to the golf in a minute here...].
I earned USPTA certification and taught tennis professionally until I earned B.S./Bio-chemistry and M.B.A./Finance degrees.
During that period I also taught golf to many of my tennis students.
I will go on here to list my athletic accomplishments outside of golf - I'm trying to let you know that since launching my business career that golf became my passion and I applied the same discipline and introspection to becoming an accomplished golfer, and teacher, as I did to my other sports.
I am an accomplished athlete:
> earning All-State Honors as a high school basketball player, and
> member of a State Championship [Class A] runner-up basketball team.
> earned top ten tennis ranking in Southeastern Michigan Tennis Association as junior.
> earned athletic scholarship to Division II university where I played 4 years [#1 singles and #1 doubles last 3 of 4 years].
I know how to play various sports at a high level, including golf which is and has been my passion for several decades.
And I know how to teach and communicate to various student types - whether advanced or beginner.
About the lesson
- All Levels
- English
All languages in which the lesson is available :
English
I have the student hit a few balls, maybe a dozen, just letting them relax and warm up.
Then we engage in conversation around their current golf swing - I encourage the student to tell me what they are trying to do in order to produce good shots [which will serve to engage the student in the deeper conversations to follow].
Then I hit a few balls to demonstrate an effectively tension-free repeatable swing that consistently strikes the ball in such a way that it flies to the target on the proper trajectory.
Then we talk about some of the differences between our swings.
With a big picture view in place, then the details can be addressed in context.
The first detail we dive into is the interaction between the club face and the ball - we cover the face-ball interaction that tends to result from their swing, and how that interaction affects the ball's flight.
Then we cover the club face-ball interaction that is produced by my swing and the associated ball flight results.
At this point, it often becomes self-evident to the student what swing changes will be needed in order to get the club face to interact with the ball in a way that will produce the ball flight results they desire.
Then I introduce training drills to begin making those changes.
After going through the above steps, the student really sees the solid reasoning behind the changes we are seeking to make and is therefore more receptive to those efforts even though they will often need to make movements that go against their intuition.
You see, I'll never ask you to do anything that is more athletically difficult than what you are otherwise inclined to do - the new movements will be different, but not difficult.
My teaching approach gets real results for real golfers of all kinds; my approach includes:
> helping students to clearly understand and perform the counter-intuitive movements that are required to get the ball-striking results they seek.
> using athletic movements the student is already familiar with and relating how those movements apply to the golf swing.
> using simple examples of physical law that everyone is familiar with, and relating how physical law applies to the golf swing in a way that makes the swing nearly effortless/tension-free to produce consistently solid ball-striking.
> working with the student to find the right blend of techniques so they can develop a swing that fits their abilities.
See above re "What education, training..."
In short, I've worked with students as young as 4 years old. I've worked with kids [typically 8 years and older], and all ages, genders and experience levels [beginners, advanced beginners to accomplished golfers].
Beware signing up for a "package deal" where you pay a large fee up front covering several or more future lessons.
I go lesson by lesson - if you aren't getting better then quit anytime.
See also my response to "What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?"
I always enjoy seeing my students improve and gain a new appreciation and passion for the great game of golf.
Recent students have:
> in one case, a student was able to continue playing golf because we both improved his results and changed his swing to alleviate fairly serious shoulder pain.
> in another case, a student was so bound up with mechanical thoughts he didn't even enjoy golf anymore - in just 1 lesson he went from thinking his way through his swing to really feeling his swing. We did this by getting his hands and body to instinctively respond to the momentum of the club head [so he could employ his reflexive fine motor skills to direct that momentum with fine instinctive movements to get the club face to consistently strike the ball solidly].
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You should feel comfortable with a professional's response to this question [per above]: "What is your typical process for working with a new customer?" AND the "Introduction"

Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Theodore.
Perfect! Ted had great communication right from the start. He sent us (my two boys and I) videos to watch ahead of time so we would have a better understanding of what he would be teaching us. He explains the connection between the golf swing and the body in a very understandable way. He was flexible with his time and the place we met for lessons. We have a second lesson coming up and we are all looking forward to it. We are doing the drills he taught us so we can be ready to advance for our lessons.
We are very happy with Ted and highly recommend him.Perfect! Met Ted for a golf lesson to go over how to impact the ball. We did a few drills to feel the correct takeaway and where your hands should be right after impact along with internal hip movement. Ted is very knowledgeable on the game and feel this lesson really helped start the year of better.
Perfect! Explained everything well, taking another lesson soon!
Perfect! It was great working with Ted, he is very knowledgeable and patient. After working with Ted for a few hours it has changed the way I understand the golf swing. Ted taught me some great training drills that are easy to do at home over the fall and winter that replicate and hone the feelings associated with key moves in Croker’s technique. I’ve been playing for years as just a mediocre golfer, but with Ted’s guidance I feel like I’m on track to a much better golf game.
Perfect! very committed to teaching you the proper way to hit a golf ball
Perfect! Very comfortable and easy to work with. Uses very simple and practical approach.
Perfect! I have had 6 golf lessons with Ted. He is a wonderful coach and fun to learn from. The swing he teaches is so different from what I was taught 30 years ago and so much easier, better and much less stress on my body. He gives me clear and impactful explanations and demonstrations of key fundamentals required to develop a tension-free swing with consistent results. I am going to be a much better golfer. I can't wait until spring! I will continue to take lessons from Ted as needed. Tim Badgley
Perfect! He is a passionate coach. I want to hit the ball like him.
Perfect! Ted is very good at explaining the practical application and also demonstrating each lesson. He also is a very good listener and is patient.

In just my first lesson I gained a clear big picture understanding of Croker's techniques and I can perform the first step drill I need to practice at home until my next lesson. Ted is professional and knowledgeable, yet very easy to follow and interact with.
I am very new to golf, I have only been playing a few months. Ted worked with me for our first lesson and it was amazing. I was shooting low 60's to high 50's prior to our lesson. With just my first lesson with Ted teaching me Peter Croker's techniques, and some practicing at the range, I was able to shoot a 45 already! He is very in depth and finds more than one way to explain something to you to make sure that you understand it. I'm a fairly quick learner so we went probably a little faster than usual, but you can easily tell that he wants you to fully understand a concept before moving on. Highly recommend!
Ted has way more than delivered as advertised. It is exciting to
experience for myself how the ball flies straight by letting the club
swing in a circle around me and making the ball fly up off of the
ground by hitting down on it. This was all so counter intuitive - it
took a couple of lessons to let go enough of my old habits and old
thinking to get the Peter Croker techniques that Ted teaches to work.
But I'm glad I'm sticking with it. The online training program from
Peter Croker breaks everything down into little pieces so nicely and
helps keep me on track between my lessons with Ted.My first lesson with Ted was amazing as it was both thorough and detailed. Already I understand exactly how his techniques are designed to use the club's momentum to work for me. Plus I was able to experience how my hands move so that I can compress the ball. By the end of the lesson I went from scooping the golf ball up to striking it and consistently compressing the ball to hit crisp chip shots. And I did so with rhythm and feel instead of thinking so much. Thank you Ted for teaching me Peter Croker's techniques, I look forward to more lessons and getting Croker's online training program to keep me on track!
Clearly explained and demonstrated concepts, patient & engaging
Working with Ted has drastically improved my ability to hit the ball crisply and consistently, with much less tension and thought than before. The drills we practiced helped me find the rhythm needed to coordinate my hand and hip movement into an instinctive swing. I also found it helpful to read Peter Croker’s (his mentor) material online to supplement the physical lessons.
Ted has made a large impact on my game by taking the mechanical approach out of the equation. His lessons are extremely thorough and his diagnosis of common issues are spot on. His demeanor and sense of humor make lessons fun and with the results produced I've found a whole new passion for the game. I look forward to my next lesson and can't wait to hit the course. Thank you Ted!!!
After 2 sessions with Ted I have a solid grasp of how his right-sided/dominant hand approach works as compared to the standard lead/left hand oriented approach. The lessons were enjoyable because this is simply a far less complicated approach and I experienced successful ball striking on chips and pitches very quickly where I could see a ball flight trajectory that came from giving the ball a descending blow with my hands in front of the club face at impact so the ball popped UP nicely with back spin - I didn't realize that hitting downward on the ball would make it fly upward! So, Ted's explanation about 'why' that is the case...and then getting me to experience that for myself in a matter of minutes was a BIG step for me! And now I can really feel the connection between my hands/club face and what my body is doing - first chips and then on pitches - and I see the path now to building on the confidence I'm gaining with those little shots and gradually being able to perform fuller swings with confidence also. I really like the step-by-step approach toward building my swing
After 2 sessions with Ted using his dominant right-hand method, I've seen more progress than the last two years using traditional instruction, The lessons were far more enjoyable because this is simply a far less complicated approach. I experienced successful ball striking on chips and pitches very quickly where I could see a beautiful ball flight trajectory that came from giving the ball a descending blow with my hands in front of the clubface at impact so the ball popped UP nicely with backspin. I never would have guessed that hitting downward on the ball would make it fly upward! Ted explained the approach in a very simple to understand way and I was hitting balls better than I ever imaged i'd be able to in the first hour! Now I can really feel the connection between my hands/club face and what my body is doing. His step by step program allows you to really ramp up the progression of your swing. You start off simple with chips, then you move on to pitches and keep advancing as you start to feel and understand the movements.
Ted is also a terrific guy to train with. Really couldn't say enough good things about him. He took the time to make sure I understood exactly what we were doing, how we were going to do it, and most importantly WHY its done like that. He knocked our lessons together out of the park and kept me laughing the whole time. 10/10 would highly recommend!Ted's lessons are very helpful due to his patience and ability to vary the lesson and his techniques to meet your need. I am continuing to get better much quicker than with previous instructors I have tried. His follow up videos are also very helpful.
He carefully analyzed my swing and with a few suggestions, I was able to see a great improvement. He nicely doesn't make it too complicated. He also follows up with very helpful videos. Looking forward to my next lesson.
Have had a few lessons and it’s a different swing that only gets better with time
I appreciate teds thoughtful instructions, insight and follow up. His instructions are timely and explained thoroughly.
I am having fun learning a new approach to golf from Ted. Ted has experience as an exceptional golfer. It is fun to watch Ted demonstrate. He is deeply knowledgeable about all aspects of the game. He clearly explains, in great detail, what is achievable, and why improvement must follow a process. I have followed Ted's instruction and I am getting results. I have always hit my clubs short. Thereby, I would select a shallower club to get the distance I needed, but still never knew what was going to happen. That is no way to golf. After doing the exercises and putting in the work, I am hitting the proper club the proper distance. I am elated. When I hit well, it is no accident. I know how to do it.
