About Asmaa
Over the course of 5 years, I have helped students improve their writing skills in a variety of areas. College admissions essays, IB and AP English, ESL students, college-level academic writing, 8th-grade book reports, you name it. I'm currently a writing tutor at a University. As a young college student, I have a unique outlook on current writing trends. I know what high school teachers and college professors are looking for in essays and writing assignments. I can assist in editing an essay to perfection- whether through direct editing or guiding the student to finding the answer themselves.
When students bring essays that received a grade they are unhappy with and ask "what went wrong?". Whether it may be organizational, grammatical, or formative issues, I love seeing a student's eureka moments during a session. Moments where they not only identify flaws but find out how to go about eliminating them.
I am trained by Lewis and Clark college writing center. I was an academic mentor for middle schoolers for two years prior to that, and have assisted many high school seniors in writing college admissions essays.

- Begin by asking students what they think their strengths and weaknesses in writing are. From there, this allows us to focus on weaknesses while playing up strengths.
- if the student has an essay or work of writing they are in the process of, I ask to see it and read it over. After an initial reading, I will reread and begin to make notes of areas of weakness.
- Rather than pointing out mistakes, I note sections in need of work and ask the student to identify the issue, offering my support and guidance. That method helps a student identify the flaws and think critically about their writing. Typically, if they have a rubric or writing assignment we will follow the instructions on it.
- if the student simply wants to improve their overall writing, I have writing exercises in grammar, writing, essay structures (use of evidence, lead-ins), sentence patterns, and more.
- Students whose first language is not English. I am fluent in Arabic and can adapt my teaching to English as a Second Language students who speak other languages.
- Highschool Students in AP and IB English, history, and lang/lit, and more.
- HS Seniors applying for college.
- College students writing essays in humanities subjects
- Middle Schoolers in grammar, book reports, reading, writing, and other practical academic skills.
