About Sydney
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid, and have really fallen in love with it over the last few years. It is magical to see a student grow in their abilities, but mostly in their confidence and ownership of their learning.
I am a 2nd grade teacher, and have worked in education for about 5 years. I have my Master's in education, as well as my teaching credential in both single subject English and multiple subject (elementary.)

For the summer, I am offering remote tutoring and support from May 30th- July 30th. Student and parent(s) will have an initial virtual "learning plan meeting" for introductions, goal setting, and creating of a schedule for tutoring over the summer/expectations for success. During my time with your child, I will also give recommendations and supports for the student to do independently as well to help them with their reading, writing and math skill growth.
I have worked with many different types of students- higher students who want more of a challenge, middle ranged students who are right on track, and lower students who need support and scaffolds to feel successful and "catch up." I have also worked with many students with IEPs, 504s, and who are in the MTSS process for behaviors, concerns in academics, and special needs.
My page is mostly geared towards parents, because I know students at this age are not solely in charge of their education or aware of its importance. My advice for parents and students is to accept where you all are, to give yourself grace (we've been in a pandemic and it's been wild) because we are all just doing the best we can/trying our best. Practice makes progress, not perfection. Grace over grades.
In my class we have recently started "Friday Fun Day" for students who complete all of their work (work is scaffolded to help everyone feel able to do this and set up for success.) This week students were able to bring in their favorite toy, and it was so fun to see how proud they were of themselves and how much fun they had sharing something they loved with their peers.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are some of your learning goals? Identifying numbers and letters, being able to quickly do basic math facts and identify sight words, learning to read fluently, working to understand two and three digit addition and subtraction, etc. I'm happy to help assess/create goals with students though, as I know it can seem like a daunting task to know where to start.

Details
I charge $50 per session, which can be anywhere from 30mins to an hour depending on your student. This is also taking into consideration not only virtual tutoring but assignments and supports for your student to practice independently. I would recommend your student to have 2-3 sessions a week at least, in order to check in and have more guided practice.
