About Michelle
I am a Stanford graduate student currently pursuing my M.A. in Education through the Teacher Education Program, with a focus on teaching English Language Arts to grades 7-12. I have a B.A. in English from Kenyon College, where I worked as a tutor in the Writing Center for 2 years. I am excited to work with high school students on their writing, and I am most experienced with academic essays, college application essays, and creative writing.
As someone who is passionate about writing, I love to see my students become more confident in their writing abilities and more proud of their work, and I strive to help my students not only to become better writers but to find enjoyment and excitement in the process of writing.
I have a B.A. in English from Kenyon College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude, and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Education from Stanford with a focus on Secondary English (grades 7-12). I also have 2 years of experience tutoring college students one-on-one in the Kenyon College Writing Center, which I did for 5-8 hours a week.

It is really helpful for me to know what a student's goals are before the first lesson. Are they trying to improve particular elements of their writing overall (such as the ability to come up with a strong thesis or to analyze quotes in greater depth), or are they trying to perfect a single piece of writing such as a college application essay? If a student is working on a specific assignment, I would like to see the rubric along with any writing that the student has already completed (even if it's just notes!) before our first lesson. Any teacher feedback on previous assignments would also be helpful so I can see what you want to work on.
