About Jillian
Working as a Freelancer/Consultant has it's perks; I can choose which projects and jobs I want to take on and which ones I pass on, based on my area of expertise and the level of value I believe I can bring to the position. I am always open to teaching, because when it comes to tutoring and teaching, I remain confident that my services assist in the advance my students and teach them practical skills that they will be able to utilize for the duration of their academic career and thereafter.
I have taken on various forms of special projects over the years; intermittently, however, I have focused more time on freelancing over the past two years. I take on special projects that include a wide variety of administrative work, many different forms of writing projects; business and academic, tutoring, office management, project management and personal and executive assistant roles.
Over the past 10 years of my professional career, I have been in multiple positions that have required me to create and maintain my own work schedule, causing me to learn very quickly how to work strategically, remain organized and multi-task efficiently; a quality I like to instill in my students (especially the ones who struggle with studying).
Once I really started to hone in on my specific set of skills and talents, I began taking on freelance and consulting jobs and special projects, many in the area of writing and document creation.
I am passionate about helping others; specifically my ability to assist others in becoming more efficient in a certain area, making assessments of the areas of strength and those in need of improvement, and then addressing those areas by way of practical applications. I am passionate in helping others tap into their strengths, and I love to write and to teach others to write at the level of their full potential.
When I was in College, I worked for one year as an ESL (English Second Language)Tutor at Diablo Valley College, one year as a Professor's Assistant at Mills College in Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies (lots and lots of essay writing, research and citations), and two years freelancing as a tutor specializing in essay writing, formatting and English (up to college level).
Before I began freelancing, I worked as a social worker and then a manager within the field of social services and government assistance programs; I am very comfortable and experienced in working with diverse groups of people with different personalities, backgrounds, strengths, and deficits. I also have experience working with students who struggle with learning disorders and/or who have experienced trauma.
Although I tutor mostly in English, specializing in essay writing, revision/editing and formatting, I also offer tutoring services in the area of social science and test taking/studying.

I have a passion and a gift for writing, I started writing poetry and short stories at age 5; I believe that the gifts that we are given are only a gift if we share them with others.
When I first got into Community College; I was attending DVC, my English teacher recognized my gift for writing and recommended me to be a tutor for english second language students in the English department. I was accepted and tutored ESL students for a year, teaching them how to properly form sentences, use correct grammar, and form a proper essay; I also helped regular students draft essays and format essays. I was a Professor's Assistant in Ethnic Studies and Women's Studies at Mills College while I was a student there, and mainly assisted other students in researching, analysis and writing their essays. I have also tutored in High school and Middle school English, in the social sciences, and in the areas of studying and test taking.

Get to know them and their personality, ask them questions about the areas they're struggling in. Watch them do an assignment on their own in order to be able to majke an assessment as to which areas they may have a deficit. Review and assess previous academic work, review previous assignments and grades within the last 6-12 months. Complete an assessment of strengths and weaknesses, set practical weekly and/or monthly goals, strategize homework routines and practice tests, etc.
1st grade through college: extremely diverse populations including low-income students, victims of domestic violence, veterans, and children and adults with learning disabilities.

Pay rate ranges from $23 - $40/hour based on the student's needs and how extensively they need my assistance and services.
