About Bryn
I love teaching people, and I will come to each session with enthusiasm. I have experience with all different kinds of writing like technical, persuasive, expository, and creative.
I enjoy seeing students' faces light up when they understand a lesson. Knowing that I helped someone and made something for them a little bit easier makes me feel accomplished.
I've always had a passion for teaching other people and sharing my knowledge with others. I enjoy and strive for the look on a student's face when the lesson begins to make sense.
I am a recent graduate of Penn State University and during my four years at Penn State, I was a Writing Tutor at Penn State Learning. I helped students of all different disciplines and levels improve their writing in all different stages of writing (brainstorming, first draft, final copy/editing). I am also currently a volunteer for Duolingo, a free language app, and I host English events. Teaching English to non-native speakers has allowed me to fine-tune my teaching skills.

I like to have the student explain the writing prompt and how they feel they answered it. I typically prefer students to read their papers out loud (unless they say they are uncomfortable) so that they can hear the paper in their own words. This allows students to better see mistakes in the paper that we can address together.
At Penn State, any student could come to the Writing Center for help so I am experienced in working with a diverse group of students. I have experience working with multilingual students who are learning English as a second or third language, students who love writing, and students who hate writing.
Look for a teacher that is going to help you grow and not just give you the answers. In the short term getting the answers will pay off but not in the long term. Especially with writing. Oftentimes you'll see that English teachers (in high school or college) will be more interested in your growth than whether you say all the right things.
Every week I host English Duolingo events over zoom, and I sincerely enjoy learning about all the interesting places everyone is from and the culture that surrounds them. Participants have told me about different cultural foods, their everyday lives living all over the world, and have encouraged me with their kind words. I like to think I learn from them as much as they learn from me.
