About Nancy
I am professionally experienced teaching children English; writing, reading and consonant/vowel basics. Once a child has made connections between alphabet sounds/patterns and creating words, there is no stopping them to be able to read with confidence. I have a Bachelors degree in ELA and a Masters in the art of teaching and learning. I retired from teaching first grade for 20 years in 2021.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I waited until my children were all in school and then I went to college; Oakland University. I went on to get my Masters Degree from Nova Southwestern, an online school.
I have a bachelors and masters degree in education. I have taught in a classroom for 20 years.

To target the correct learning challenge, I would like to see a child's previous report card or progress report to give me a data baseline. If there is no report, I can give an informal assessment of fry words, sounds, reading a simple text or handwriting.
I have worked with Young Fives, first, second and third grade students.
My years of experience as a teacher have given me a wide variety of 'tools' with which to teach children.
I have tutored children during summer months while I was actively teaching. I have a passion for helping children be able to understand difficult ELA concepts and to be able to be successful readers with confidence.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students generally know what confuses them when learning the English language and writing. After talking with a child I can pinpoint what concepts they are not clear on.
