About Vanessa
I am a reading interventionist and ESOL teacher at a local school in New Hampshire.
I have my certification in ESOL and I am a certified Level I Dyslexia practitioner and my focus is through the Orton Gillingham method.
I love working with children and watching them ignite their passion for reading and writing. It is such a joy to be able to see their "aha" moments when they grasp hard concepts or read things they never thought they would.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. My mother is a teacher as well and I was lucky enough to see her loving the craft which followed suit with me.
I have been a reading interventionist and ESOL teacher since 2019. I am currently obtaining my certification to become a dyslexia practitioner through the Seacoast Learning Center for Children.

When working with a new student, I like to get a baseline of where they are at academically. This is usually done through reading a book to determine reading level, a phonics screener to get a read of their strengths and weaknesses in letter sound relationships.
I also like to ask questions about how they feel about reading and writing. Do they have certain subjects that they enjoy reading? What are their personal academic goals? How do they feel about reading out loud in the classroom?
I have worked with all different kinds of students from ages 5-11! I have worked with:
-Non native English speakers
-Students with IEPs
-Students with 504s
-Behavioral students
-Selectively mute students
-Dyslexic Students
