About Mariyam

Hello! I have been a tutor for over 10 years and have strong skills in writing research papers, editing and helping with grammer. I love to see my students grow and accomplish their goals they've set! As a graduate from UCLA and northeastern university, I have a strong background in APA style writing in scientific research. I also have tutored at SMC for a couple of years as a student while attending the community college. English, neuroscience and psychology are also my passion and I love reading on these subjects when I have some free time.

Something that I enjoy most about my work is how rewarding it can be to see someone achieve something that they have been working towards. I love when my students find confidence in themselves with the reward that comes from the hard work they have put in. I also love learning what my students share with me and enjoy understanding and working with the student's unique teaching style.

I got started teaching when I was 16 years old, so almost 15 years ago at my community center for pre-k and first graders. I started out as a teacher's assistant and have loved working as a tutor/teacher ever since.

I have strong skills in research based APA writing during my time at UCLA and Northeastern. I have been a tutor for over 10+ years - and also tutored at Santa Monica College.

About the lesson

Typically, I like to understand the student's goals and their style of learning. From there, I like to create a plan with the student (taking into consideration their work schedules) and dedicate timings in the week for tutoring. I also like to get to know what the student's long-term goals are in order to provide resources that I believe would be best for the student not just for tutoring purposes but also in the long run!

I have worked with all types of students and with all ranges of ages. My youngest student has been 7 and my oldest student was 53 years old.
