About Samantha
Hi, I'm Samantha! I think that understanding how each individual student learns is key to being an effective tutor. For older students this means taking learning styles into account. With younger students, this often manifests as making learning fun. I have two years of tutoring experience and love helping my students reach that "Aha!" moment. I am a recent graduate of UMBC and am comfortable teaching a variety of subjects. I am also available to help provide structure and fun to online learning! I look forward to hearing from you!😊

I like to get an idea of what aspects of a subject a student needs help with (it's totally ok if that's everything!😊). For students with specific assignments they would like help with, I spend the beginning of the session going over big picture concepts and practicing how to apply them before diving right in to help with the assignment! Our time is always used wisely, but I think this approach is the most helpful for learning and retention.Â

I hired Samantha to help my daughter with Chemistry. She is very patient with questions and takes the time to go over new information in a few different ways so that my daughter really gets it. Her grades are going up!
My daughter Rachel was falling behind on reading and phonics skills during her year in kindergarten and I struggled to get her to practice with me at home. Samantha worked with her and she caught up with the rest of her class, was ready for first grade, and now likes to read with me at home. My daughter had fun during ever lesson because Samantha used things like play dough to build letters and reading games to help her learn!

For most tutoring sessions my rate is $15 an hour. For essay editing sessions my rate is $12 an hour. I am happy to split an hour between siblings for $20 an hour!
For 3+ hours of virtual school help my rate is $10 an hour.Â
