About Matthew
I am a current Baltimore City Public School teacher with experience teaching American History, Ancient and Classical History, US Government and Politics, and and AP US Government and Politics at the secondary level. I also have experience teaching East Asian History and Western Civilization 1 and 2 at the collegiate level. My teaching importantly intersects with teaching writing, grammar and language, and my experience ranges from implementing IEPs and helping students meet success while reading up to 9 grade levels below standard to teaching college level material. As a graduate student, my writing was held to a standard of published work. I work to build confidence in my students by scaffolding for their current level, while working towards those same high standards.
I love helping students discover a love of learning and knowledge and an appreciation for their place in society. I also love inspiring students to feel a sense of accomplishment no matter how small the steps. Each accomplishment is a step in a lifetime of learning. Finally, I love learning from my students. Not only about the things in which they are experts, but by being challenged to teach in new ways, challenged to approach the material I'm teaching in new ways, and challeneged to think about the world in new ways.
