About Jennifer
As you can tell from my picture with Bill Nye the science guy, my passion for science runs deep. We took this picture at the National Science Teachers Convention 2010.
I am a Biology, Chemistry, Marine Science, Oceanography, and Earth Science teacher with 10 years of classroom experience.
Currently, I am working as a Science/STEM teacher at a middle school.
In recent years, I have been responsible for middle and high school AP/Honors/General/Basic Chemistry and Biology students both in the classroom and tutoring. I use a lot of visual and kinesthetic learning tools that really help the student understand concepts and retain information.
My Master's research project led to a successful patent on a marine biomedical compound. This compound has been described as an anticancer agent. My publications are in the Biochemical Pharmacology and Marine Education journals.
Some of my other experiences have included a submersible dive aboard the Johnson Sealink II in the Florida sinkholes, working with the Archie Carr Sea Turtle research program in the Bahamas, tagging sharks, originating and launching a successful marine science curriculum, and participating in the ARMADA project to Alaska focusing on climate change.
I am very excited to inspire, engage, and teach science to you.

The first session is usually a get to know you and get to know what you need to know. Sometimes one session is all you need and other times it helps to take baby steps and to really understand the information. I am a full time teacher so my goal with a one on one tutoring session is to understand the students learning style. For example visual, audio, or a tactile learner. We go from there if we need to perform a lab for the tactile learners then we will.
This is my 19th year teaching. I have taught as young as 4th grade to Seniors in college.
Go to someone you feel comfortable with and are able to ask many questions.
We just received a new ActivPanel (smartboard) in my classroom, soooo cool.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to narrow down your biggest challenges and bring them forward during the sessions. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
