About Tanya

I am a certified teacher with a strong educational background and over four years of experience as an inclusion teacher supporting upper elementary and middle school students. I have a genuine passion for helping children and young adults succeed academically while building confidence and independence as learners.

I work closely with families to support students in developing essential reading and math skills, strengthening study habits, and achieving their academic goals. I have specialized training in the Science of Reading and experience using the Phonics First curriculum, allowing me to provide structured, evidence-based reading instruction that supports students at all skill levels. My background in inclusive classrooms enables me to effectively support students with diverse learning needs through personalized instruction and proven strategies.

I hold teaching certifications with endorsements in Social Studies (7–12), General Business (7–12), Psychology (7–12), and Special Education (K–12). I am currently completing a Master of Education in Literacy, with graduation expected in May 2026, and will also hold a Reading (K–12) certification upon completion of the program.

My goal is to create a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged, understood, and motivated to succeed. I value strong communication with parents and work collaboratively to ensure steady progress and meaningful results for each student.

From the very first day I walked into Ms. Frantz’s kindergarten classroom, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. During my undergraduate studies, however, I was advised that job opportunities in education were limited in Pennsylvania, which led me to pursue a career in business. Even so, I always knew that I would eventually find my way back into the classroom.

After relocating to Mississippi in 2010, I learned about the Mississippi Quality Path for Teachers program and enrolled in 2012, earning my initial one-year teaching license. During the 2015–2016 school year, I taught at Carver Middle School in the Covington County School District, serving as an inclusion teacher for 5th, 7th, and 8th grades. During this time, I also earned my Special Education certification.

In 2016, after moving to the Jackson area, I returned to the corporate world, though my passion for teaching never faded. In August 2023, I was grateful for the opportunity to return to education as a 5th-grade inclusion teacher in the Madison County School District, where I continue to support students and collaborate with families to help learners thrive.

I am currently in my fourth year as a Special Education Inclusion Teacher, working with fifth-grade students in the Madison County School District.

I communicate with students and parents prior to instruction to better understand the students’ learning needs, challenges, and preferred learning styles. This collaborative approach allows me to develop a targeted instructional plan that supports meaningful progress.

As an inclusion teacher, I have extensive experience working with students who struggle with reading and students with learning differences. I regularly provide small-group and one-on-one instruction for children with IEPs and 504 plans, focusing on developing foundational skills, building confidence, and promoting independence.

I have worked with students at various skill levels, including those who are significantly behind as well as those who require additional challenges. Teaching in a Title I school has provided me with the opportunity to support children from diverse backgrounds and to employ patient, structured, and evidence-based strategies to help every learner make meaningful progress. My goal is to help struggling readers feel successful, supported, and confident in their abilities.

When choosing a tutor, it’s essential to find someone who genuinely listens to your child’s unique needs. Every student learns differently, and taking the time to understand where a child is struggling makes all the difference. While credentials are important, meaningful progress comes from personalized instruction that is built around your child’s strengths and challenges. My goal is to partner with families to ensure each student receives the support they need to feel confident and successful.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before speaking with a teacher or tutor, it can be helpful for parents to reflect on a few key questions about their child’s learning. Thinking through these areas allows conversations to be more focused and ensures your child receives the right kind of support.

Questions for Parents to Consider

What areas does my child struggle with the most (reading, comprehension, math, writing, organization, attention)?

When does my child seem most frustrated or overwhelmed with schoolwork?

How does my child learn best (visual supports, hands-on activities, repetition, step-by-step instruction)?

What strategies or accommodations have helped my child in the past?

Has my child been identified with an IEP or 504 plan, and which supports seem most effective?

What goals do we have for our child (improved confidence, stronger skills, better grades, reduced anxiety)?

What would progress look like for my child at this stage?

Having clarity around these questions helps parents advocate effectively for their child and allows teachers and tutors to create a personalized plan that supports both academic growth and confidence. Strong communication and collaboration between families and educators play a key role in student success.
