About D'yann
Want to learn sign language? Have a family member, coworker or someone that you would like to communicate with in sign language? Have very little time to go to school? Many years ago, I was introduced to learning sign language through song. At first I was interested because I thought it would be a creative way to express myself with dance. Like yesterday, I remember leading my sign group in a signed performance at a deaf church. Afterwards, a young teenage boy came up to me and began signing to me. I didn't understand what the young boy was communicating to me because I only knew the words to the song. It was at that point that I realized in order to be an effective communicator, I needed to learn their language, about the people and their community. This revelation lead to a dedicated purpose to find "my place" to serve the d/Deaf Community. As embarked upon my journey to research, study and engage in the deaf community. My passion would lead me to move to the area where the origins of ASL developed. I moved to Maryland, I interviewed staff at Gallaudet, NAD, and RID, enrolled in a deaf studies programs, connected with deaf organizations, attended deaf events, volunteered at Deaf Schools and immersed myself in the deaf Community. It was there in Maryland that I would establish SignwithMeInc. My commitment to learn the language and motivation to bring awareness to the deaf community through teaching the fundamentals of sign language has lead to thousands of youth and adults being exposed to learning sign language, many of whom have become ASL interpreters and teachers. My mission continues to be the inspiration to spark a whole new generation of individuals interested in making a difference in their communities, become advocates and allies in support of the d/Deaf community and equal communication access in education, the arts and film. My start teaching sign language begin in the community and then transitioned to the formal classroom setting. Three years after my first exposure to sign language through song and completing my Masters degree studies where I focused my capstone research and business plan on the deaf community and "Implementing DHH divisions within Major Corporations, " I decided to move to the east coast where ASL had its beginnings in America to seek out my direction for starting my own company in service to the deaf community. I moved with the purpose of learning the of needs the deaf community from members of the deaf community, immersing myself in the deaf community, and starting my non-profit business Sign with Me (which at the time I only had the name and not what services I would offer). While starting my business, in 2002, I began taking my first formal ASL courses at a local community college in Maryland at the same time. By 2004, I operated classes out of four different community center locations and secured a contract with Maryland National Parks and Recreations Summer Youth Enrichment sites teaching our 1-hr workshops at three different centers per day servicing Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia.
I personally have more than 20+ combined years teaching ASL in the community as well as 15+years teaching ASL in all levels of secondary education and post secondary Community College levels. Our team of instructors have completed a minimum of 2yr Associate Degree in the related field of study to holding Dual credentials in English and ASL, and Masters degrees in Organizational Management and Education.

The SWM Classes take students ages 9yrs and up from zero to basic conversational skills in 8 weeks. We incorporate music as a way to teach ASL concepts using a combination of sign systems. Our curriculum is designed to cater to all learning styles and is paced to allow for student success and enjoyment. Join an environment that is FUN, EASY, and LOVEABLE!
Our interactive programs service a diverse population and is fully accessible to youth, adults and seniors citizens whether you are hearing or deaf. Ages 9-years and up can learn the basics and advance to conversational skills in just 8 weeks!. Classes are available to anyone interested in learning. All instructors are fluent in ASL and possess a minimum 2yr-Associate Degree from reputable Deaf Studies in the field of study to holding Dual credentials in English and ASL, and Masters degrees in Organizational Management and Education.
When choosing to hire a teacher in the sign language area of expertise, look for someone who is actively involved in the deaf community and is passionate about teaching. Require your teacher to have a track record of success that can be proven, and one is not only knowledgeable but who is credentialed in both teaching and the language. I am one of a very small percentage of teachers who are dual credentialed in both English and ASL and an even fewer percentile of teachers who are credential ASL across the country.
This past summer 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully transitioned our communit- in-person class to a remote, on-line Zoom Platform. We hosted two classes of ages 9-12 and 13-18 and are proud at how seamless and fluid the transition and student engagement proved. We achieved all of our outcomes and demonstrated our recital song performances participation and production was just as inspiring and impacting as in person!

She was my sign language teacher for 2 and a half year and she has taught me so much. I have witnessed her perform, interpret, sign songs, create websites, and many other things. When she signs and teaches sign you can feel that she loves it and that she really wants to love it as well. Eventually she stops feeling like just your teacher and starts feeling like she’s apart of you and your life and family. It's a passion project that you FEEL more than see. Educational, enlightening, and uplifting. From inception to implementation one is left empowered. D'yann is solid in her purpose - she gives voice to a community that has historically been unheard. ADVOCACY and self-determination is inspired in the hearing and the non-hearing. Dy’ann is always there to help you! We were coworkers at one point in our lives and I worked with the special education classes. We paired up and had her ASL class with our class we practiced and performed in front of our school. All the love she puts into her work shows everyday!

FAMILY DISCOUNT
A family member in the same household who wishes to take the class at the same time may enroll for a reduced fee of $85 per additional person.
