About Nelly
I am a TEFL-certified teacher with over 5 years experience teaching. I am from Brooklyn, New York, but right now I live in Bulgaria. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University, where I specialized in dramatic writing.
I've taught students from ages 5 to 65. Most recently, I taught at a private language school in Istanbul, where I helped students improve their writing and speaking scores on the IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge exams. I have also taught general English, business English, and conversational English.
I have a diverse background which makes me excellent at meeting new students and adapting to their needs. Some of my students need help with exams, some want to get to a higher level in English, and some just want to practice speaking. My biggest strength as a teacher is how quickly and easily I can adapt my lessons.

My lessons are fun and personalized! I work with students to build lessons that work for them (what materials to use, how much homework to give, what to focus on).
I specialize in helping with:
- Writing (emails, essays, creative)
- TOEFL/IELTS test prep
- Speaking (conversation, professional, interviews)
- Grammar
My biggest focus is making sure my students feel comfortable speaking with native speakers and making mistakes. Learning another language is hard, and using that language is even harder! My lessons are a safe space to not be perfect.
I've worked with students from ages 5 to 65, but I work best with students who are at least A2/B1 or higher.
