About Amy
I am a singer, pianist and brass player. I have been teaching voice and piano since 1994 and have owned my own studio since 1996. I hold degrees in Music Education and Psychology from The Ohio State University. My students have received Superior ratings for performances at the National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals and Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble Contest. I have also been an adjudicator for both the aforementioned organizations. I have additional experience teaching voice and music theory with the Otterbein Kinderchor at their summer camps in 1994 and 1995. I have had voice students earn acceptance at music schools across Ohio including The Ohio State University, Capital University, Otterbein University, Miami University, Ohio University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wittenberg University, Heidelberg University, Cleveland State University and Kent State University. Additionally I have had students accepted at music schools outside Ohio including Berklee College of Music and Rhodes College.

I teach each student according to what they need. With Piano Lessons, I focus on teaching students to read music well so that they can eventually play anything that is put in front if them. I use traditional method books, but I often use a different method for different students. I also like to find music for them that they will enjoy playing....after all, music should be fun! These "fun" pieces could be movie themes, Halloween music, Christmas music, etc.
With voice students I teach mostly classical and musical theater. I focus on helping my students develop a healthy singing technique. Even young students will benefit from using a classical technique to sing whatever music they choose, whether it is Disney, folk songs Broadway showtunes or art songs.
