I like to first start from the motivation for the topic, why we are studying particular topic, what are the basics and logic behind it and then go for the main subject. I believe just knowing syntax and algorithms is not enough, but students need to understand how the things are working in background so that they will be able to develop on their own and this also makes them capable of finding issue, problems and resolving them faster.
