About Andrew
Hi, my name is Andrew and I’m a musician, composer and music teacher (teaching saxophone, clarinet, and music theory/composition). I’ve been teaching for around 10 years now. I have extensive experience as a performer and teacher, teaching saxophone and clarinet as well as theory and composition, and I've taught in a wide variety of settings from individual lessons all the way through to whole class sessions. I have lots of experience in teaching from an absolute beginner level, and in teaching a wide range of ages, from early primary school age up to older adult learners. As far as formal education goes, I’m trained to masters level in music (at Middlesex University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire), and I also have a DipABRSM diploma in Principles of Instrumental/Vocal Teaching. While most of my performing background has been in jazz (my undergraduate degree was a BA in jazz performance from Middlesex University), I’m comfortable playing and teaching many styles of music. My fees are £55 for an hour lesson, or £30 for half an hour, and I can offer a discount for bulk advance bookings.

I will provide all necessary sheet music and materials, exercises, etc. as PDFs. I enjoy teaching at all levels and absolute beginners are welcome! My teaching approach is designed to guide you from the very first stages of learning an instrument through to an advanced level, while being flexible to the needs and desires of each student. I like to take into account as much as possible the musical tastes and preferences of the student when selecting repertoire to work on, as I feel that this is a great way of keeping motivation high. I’m happy to help with music A levels and GCSEs too, if that’s what you need! I teach pupils of all ages, from primary school age up to older adult learners.

Excellent! Clear explanation of how I can improve my basic technique and useful exercises to help me progress. He also emailed me some resources to use for practice on.
- It was a pleasure to meet Mal and help him with his clarinet playing.Andrew's response :
Perfect! Andrew helped me realise my strengths and areas of development after a 13yr break. He also provided practical techniques to work to support me with those areas. I will continue my reconnecting journey with him.
Perfect! Andrew is very supportive and encouraging. He was quick to identify the things I needed to work on and good at explaining how to improve my technique. He helped me identify my goals and seems to have plenty of music, including his own compositions, in a format he can share digitally. A very enjoyable first lesson!
- Well done on your first lesson - I'm sure with practice everything will come back quickly and you'll be playing your old pieces (and more) in no time!Andrew's response :
