About Hodge
Hodge is a dedicated piano teacher with over 10 years of experience in piano study, performance, and competitions. He holds an RCM ARCT diploma and is in his final year at UBC, majoring in Biology. His diverse musical background includes 4 years of experience as the principal tuba player with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, founder and president of his high school music club, and performed in his band at venues including community centers and at Night Markets. Hodge also has experience with orchestral composition and solo piano pieces, and he understands how to bring out both the technique and emotion in music.

Hodge offers lessons in English or Cantonese, online or in person, and works with students of all ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and levels. Whether preparing for RCM exams, learning proper practice habits, or just enjoying music, he is committed to providing a thoughtful, supportive, and enjoyable learning experience in piano and music. Hodge is available for in-person lessons at his home studio in Richmond and can also travel to students’ homes in both Richmond and Vancouver for added convenience. In lessons, Hodge places strong emphasis on building a solid foundation in all areas of piano playing. He works closely with students on developing improvisation skills, sight-reading, ear training, and memorization techniques—essential components for becoming a well-rounded musician. These skills not only prepare students for success in RCM exams but also help them feel more confident and capable in their overall musicianship. Hodge tailors each lesson to the student’s level and goals, ensuring that they progress in technique, musical understanding, and expression. By focusing on both the technical and creative sides of piano, he helps students gain the tools they need to enjoy playing and grow as independent musicians.
