About CARMEN
Teaching Approach
My teaching is rooted in strong technical foundations and a deep understanding of how musical skills develop over time.
Lessons integrate:
• Secure instrumental technique
• Practical music theory
• Aural training through singing and listening
• Musical understanding and interpretation
• Structured, individual progression
Students are supported to become confident, independent and expressive musicians.
Tuition can be exam-focused or purely for enjoyment, and repertoire may include both classical and folk traditions.

I am an experienced qualified string specialist with over 19 years of teaching experience in both individual and school settings.
As a former Head of Strings for a UK Music Service, I have led instrumental programmes, developed curriculum, supported staff and guided students from beginner level through to advanced performance and examination success. Work has always centred on developing secure technical foundations alongside deep musical understanding.
I believe strong musicianship including theory, aural skills, listening and expressive awareness is essential to long-term success and confidence.
I am passionate about creating a calm, focused and encouraging learning environment where students feel both supported and challenged.
Music education should build confidence, discipline and joy. Skills that extend far beyond the instrument itself.
Lessons are 30 minutes or 60 minutes
