About James
My name is James and I'm a music graduate from the University of Manchester, currently completing my MPhil at the University of Oxford. I have extensive experience in performance (trombone and drum-kit/percussion), composition, music theory and music technology. My own personal experience in music ranges from research on American and contemporary British experimental traditions, performing orchestral and choral music to folk and jazz, and taking a 30 piece band to a music festival. I am easy-going and friendly, and have plenty of practical knowledge through working with all ages in my work in care-homes, universities, summer-schools, and primary schools. Whether I am teaching theory and music history or performance/composition (trombone/drum-kit) my approach is the same: a flexible teaching style suited to your needs. Having myself benefited from invaluable tutorage in everything from GCSEs to an MPhil at Oxford – I know how individual learning and developing can be, especially in music. The key focus is providing specialist advice on taking your understanding of music to the next level, whatever your situation or ability.
