About Lucy

I am a statistician as my day job and I love to teach on evenings and weekends. I enjoy teaching all abilities and can help you achieve your goal - whether you're trying to lift your grades to pass an exam, or shooting for an exceptional grade. Or if you're not being graded at all and you just want to improve your maths skills! I take a very individualised approach to teaching and together we'll figure out the tools and techniques that actually work for you - and we'll try to have a laugh along the way :)

- I offer online sessions on weekday evenings and weekend mornings, or in-person sessions around York.

- Lessons are typically 1 hour long, but I am happy to discuss longer lessons as well.

-Lessons are usually 1:1, or I do a group discount for small groups learning at a similar level (e.g. classmates or siblings working towards their GCSE exam).

- I teach any age including adults, learning up to and including GCSE content (including primary, KS3, functional skills).

My time tutoring has really allowed me to understand the differences between each and every person, and their attitude towards learning. I have come to realise that the way maths is taught in schools can be disengaging for children and adults alike, and I take a more interactive and personalised approach to teaching. I am able to look at problems from different angles, which allows me to provide alternative ways to understand maths, which really work!

I also have experience working as a Classroom Assistant for an independent learning company. Here, I learnt the importance of independence when learning. A tutor should help a student to understand the problems and the methods to use, whilst allowing them space to develop their skills and improve in the subject.

I have achieved A*s in both maths and further maths at GCSE, an A* in maths A level and an A in further maths A level. I have a first class degree in a quantitative subject, and a masters degree in statistics with distinction. I continue to use mathematics and statistics daily at work, so I am able to keep those skills alive. I am no stranger to hard work and will always go the extra mile to ensure success for my students, as well as hopefully bringing a bit of enjoyment to maths (it's possible, I promise)!

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio, and I hope you will consider me - I won't let you down!

Group prices as follows:

2 students learning at a similar level sharing the hour = £40 per hour (£20 pp)
3 students learning at a similar level sharing the hour = £48 per hour (£16 pp)

I ask that students booking in groups are learning at a similar level (e.g. siblings or classmates working towards their GCSE exam). For siblings of very different ages, I would recommend booking 1:1 sessions but happy to discuss a price discount!

I also offer a discounted hourly rate for longer lessons of 2 or 3 hours at a time. I find these sessions are useful for those who prefer to "cram" before an exam - don't worry we'll take lots of breaks!
