About Aurelia
I completed the Grade 10 Guzheng examination of the Shanghai Musicians Association while I was in middle school, after several years of formal training. I later continued performing in school ensembles — I was a member of a traditional Chinese orchestra in high school, and during university I played Guzheng in the university ensemble.
These experiences helped me develop not only my individual playing skills, but also a stronger understanding of ensemble playing, musical expression and the role of the Guzheng within traditional Chinese music.
For me, learning the Guzheng is not only about technique. I also enjoy sharing the stories, cultural background and imagery behind traditional pieces, so students can understand what the music is trying to express rather than simply playing the notes.
I can teach in both English and Chinese, and I welcome students from different cultural backgrounds. I am patient, encouraging and attentive to detail, and I adapt my teaching to each student’s level.

I offer friendly and structured Guzheng lessons for beginners and intermediate students. Lessons are available in both English and Chinese and are tailored to your level, goals and preferred learning style.
We can work on posture, finger technique, left-hand skills, rhythm, traditional Chinese pieces, musical expression and effective practice methods. Complete beginners are very welcome — no previous experience is required.
My goal is not only to help you play the notes correctly, but also to understand the character and beauty of traditional Chinese music and become more confident when playing.
For regular online lessons, you will need a Guzheng, a tuner and a set of Guzheng finger picks. If you do not have any instrument yet, that is absolutely fine--your first lesson can be an introductory session where I introduce you to the instrument, explain how it works, and play a short piece for you. I can then guide you on what you need for future class.
